About

The Department of Periodontology at the Faculty of Dentistry, King Abdulaziz University, is one of the specialized departments of the faculty, dedicated to teaching, research, and the provision of advanced clinical services in periodontology, periodontal surgery, and dental implantology, alongside conducting research in both the basic and clinical sciences. The department teaches periodontology courses to undergraduate dental students, training them to examine periodontal tissues clinically and radiographically, identify pathological changes and diagnose diseases caused by local or systemic factors, formulate comprehensive surgical and non-surgical treatment plans with defined follow-up of patients after treatment, and apply the various methods of maintaining oral health and hygiene as part of a preventive approach to periodontal disease. The department also offers a Master’s program to prepare specialized professionals in periodontology, periodontal surgery, and dental implantology, and supervises the training and qualification of residents enrolled in the Saudi Board program in the specialty. It further contributes to community service through active participation in awareness programs, educational campaigns, free dental check-up clinics, and outreach initiatives promoting oral health and the prevention of periodontal disease.
