About

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Faculty of Dentistry, King Abdulaziz University, represents the bridge between medicine and dentistry, specializing in the diagnosis and the surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries, and defects involving the face, head, neck, jaws, and the hard and soft tissues of the mouth, with a scope extending from common outpatient procedures to complex hospital-based reconstructions. The department provides a wide range of clinical services, including dentoalveolar surgery, dental implants, facial trauma management, orthognathic surgery, oral and maxillofacial pathology, temporomandibular joint disorders, and facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, through its outpatient clinics and the operating rooms of the university hospital. Academically, the department trains dental students, interns, and residents in the principles and techniques of the specialty, encompassing both theoretical knowledge and practical clinical skills, conducts scientific and clinical research to advance the field and improve patient outcomes, and works closely with other medical and dental specialties, such as orthodontics, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, and plastic surgery, to provide multidisciplinary care for complex cases, contributing to the restoration of function, the relief of pain, and the improvement of patients’ appearance and quality of life.
