The Department of Oral Diagnostic Sciences at the Faculty of Dentistry, King Abdulaziz University, aims to graduate clinicians who are proficient in diagnosing and managing oral diseases by integrating foundational scientific knowledge with clinical and research applications. The department comprises three main divisions, namely Dental Anatomy and Oral Histology, Oral Medicine and Pathology, and Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, through which it teaches undergraduate students and trains interns and postgraduate students in microscopic, clinical, and radiographic diagnostic methodologies, from understanding the biological and anatomical formation of the teeth and surrounding tissues, through studying the pathological changes of localized and systemic diseases with oral manifestations, to radiographic imaging techniques, image interpretation, and radiation protection, while engaging students in the laboratory and research activities of the specialty. The department also provides comprehensive clinical services, including an oral disease diagnosis and oral medicine clinic, histopathology services for the analysis of tissue specimens, and radiographic imaging with panoramic radiographs and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), ensuring accurate diagnosis and sound treatment planning, in addition to coordinating with treating physicians in cases of systemic disease to deliver integrated patient care.
