The Audiovisual Production Department is one of the main academic departments of the Facutly of Communication and Media at King Abdulaziz University. Its academic origins date back to 1976 when radio and television were introduced as a track within the Department of Media at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. In 2012 the track evolved into the Department of Directing and Design within the specialized Facutly, and in 2018 it was renamed the Department of Audiovisual Production with a modern curriculum aligned with international programs and market needs. The department aims to prepare specialists in audiovisual production who combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills in filmmaking and visual content creation while keeping pace with technological developments and digital distribution platforms. The academic program focuses on scriptwriting, cinematography and lighting, television and radio directing, editing, animation production, documentary and dramatic production, graphic design, and visual effects. The department provides an applied learning environment supported by studios, specialized laboratories, field training, and production projects, enhancing graduates’ readiness for careers in directing, cinematography, editing, scriptwriting, program presentation, and visual content production across different media platforms.
