Department of Journalism and Digital Media

The Department of Journalism and Digital Media is one of the main academic departments of the Facutly of Communication and Media at King Abdulaziz University. Its origins date back to 1976 when journalism was introduced as a track within the Department of Media at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. In 2012, the track developed into the Department of Journalism within the specialized Facutly, and in 2018 the department was renamed the Department of Journalism and Digital Media with a modern curriculum aligned with international programs and market needs. The department aims to prepare media professionals capable of working in evolving digital media environments by integrating traditional journalistic skills with new media tools while strengthening students’ abilities in content production, media monitoring and analysis, and communication planning. The academic program focuses on areas such as journalistic writing and editing, data journalism, digital content production, photography and editing, digital design, investigative journalism, and digital identity. The department offers several academic programs including:

  • Diploma in Digital Media
  • Bachelor’s in Digital Media accredited by the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (NCAAA).
  • Executive Master’s in Digital Media, an Academic Master’s in Communication
  • PhD in Communication and Media with tracks in journalism and digital media.
  • Executive Master’s in Media with a research project focus on journalism or digital media.
