The Department of Computer Science was established in the Faculty of Science in 1985 to promote research, knowledge, and innovation in the field of computing. It also aims to contribute to the preparation of distinguished specialists with the scientific and practical skills required to meet the growing demands of the job market. In 2006 (1427 AH), the department became part of the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, continuing its journey as one of the leading departments in education and scientific research. The department aims to provide high-quality education in computer science to prepare graduates with scientific and professional competence, enhance scientific research, contribute to the development of knowledge and technology, meet the needs of the local and global job markets for specialized professionals, support innovation and entrepreneurship in computing fields, and serve the community by offering innovative technical solutions. The department offers accredited academic programs, including bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. These programs are supported by experienced faculty members and specialized laboratories, such as the Artificial Intelligence Lab, the Networks Lab, and the Software Engineering Lab. They aim to develop students' skills in programming languages such as Python, Java, and C++, in addition to studying data structures and algorithms, networks, operating systems, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. The department strives to prepare specialists capable of innovation and working in various fields, including software development, data analysis, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and application development. Its graduates enjoy extensive job opportunities, making the department a cornerstone of creativity and innovation in the digital age .
