Department of Public Administration

The Department of Public Administration is one of the earliest academic departments established within the College of Economics and Administration at King Abdulaziz University in 1392H (1972). It is considered a primary source for preparing and supplying the public and nonprofit sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with academically and professionally qualified human capital. Since its establishment, the department has contributed to graduating a broad base of public administration specialists who occupy leadership and executive positions across various sectors. The department is distinguished by its academic leadership and the presence of highly qualified faculty members who contribute to curriculum development, research advancement, and alignment of learning outcomes with practical needs. It strives to achieve academic excellence through specialized educational programs that integrate theoretical foundations with practical application, are grounded in professional and ethical values, and promote scientific research and experiential learning. The department is committed to preparing competent professionals and leaders equipped with modern public administration skills who can meet labor market demands, contribute effectively to community service, and enhance organizational efficiency and effectiveness in alignment with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. The department’s academic plans and programs have undergone comprehensive development, including curriculum modernization and the introduction of new courses, in accordance with the Program Learning Outcomes Guide issued by the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (NCAAA) and based on benchmarking with leading universities. At the graduate level, the department offers both a Master of Public Administration (Academic Track with Thesis) (MPA) and an Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA), and it is a member of the global NASPAA organization, reflecting its commitment to international standards of quality and excellence in public administration education.
