Establishment: The Respiratory Therapy Department is one of the departments of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, established in 1434-1435 AH (2012-2013 CE) to meet the Kingdom's needs for male and female respiratory therapists. Respiratory therapy is a branch of rehabilitation science and a healthcare profession. Respiratory therapy is based on the use of selected information and skills to develop and implement care programs for individuals with respiratory or respiratory-related conditions that threaten their functional abilities due to their impact on the respiratory system. Respiratory therapy focuses on methods for assessing respiratory function and applying appropriate therapeutic interventions to maintain, improve, or restore these functions to their original level. Program Completion and Graduation Requirements: 1. The program consists of four academic years followed by a full year (12 months) of compulsory practical training in hospitals, known as the internship year. 2. The study is conducted in two semesters per academic year. 3. The first academic year is dedicated to the preparatory year, and the second year covers basic sciences related to respiratory therapy through lectures and practical lessons. The third and fourth years include theoretical and applied courses on diseases and surgeries of various body systems, along with practical training in the university hospital through lectures, practical lessons, discussion sessions, a graduation research project, and advanced discussion seminars. 4. The department’s study plan requires completing 137 credit hours to earn a Bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy as detailed in the study plan. 5. Students who successfully complete all requirements and the compulsory internship year are awarded a Bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy and are considered graduates of the department. Department Requirements: The department requires 66 credit hours of mandatory courses and 12 credit hours of elective courses.
