About the Program

The Master of Science in Power and Machine Engineering is a 36-credit, Level 7 graduate program offered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at King Abdulaziz University. The program combines advanced coursework, research preparation, specialist electives, and an eight-credit master’s thesis. Its required courses establish a strong foundation in advanced numerical analysis, power system operation and control, power system dynamics, power network analysis, engineering research methodology, and scholarly communication. Through four approved elective courses, students can deepen their expertise in areas such as high-voltage engineering, advanced power-system analysis and protection, power electronics, electrical machines, reliability, renewable-energy integration, HVDC transmission, power quality, and computational intelligence. The program prepares graduates for advanced professional practice, research and development, consulting, technical leadership, and doctoral study in electrical power, energy, and electromechanical systems.

1Deliver rigorous advanced education and research training in electrical power, energy systems, and electrical machines, enabling graduates to master a focused area of engineering practice or inquiry.
2Provide effective academic guidance and student support that promote timely progression, research achievement, professional success, and readiness for doctoral study.
3Foster innovative, evidence-based teaching and assessment practices and support the continuous professional development and scholarly creativity of faculty members.
4Advance ethical, original, and societally relevant research and innovation in power and energy engineering, with particular attention to Saudi national priorities, sustainability, resilience, and the integration of renewable energy.
5Strengthen engagement with industry, government, professional bodies, and the wider community to enrich learning and research, transfer knowledge, and address critical energy-sector challenges.

Demonstrate advanced and integrated knowledge at the forefront of power, energy, and electrical machines engineering, together with established and emerging research and inquiry methods.

Design and apply rigorous scientific research methodologies, interpret findings within broader technical and societal contexts, and critically evaluate their own work and the work of others.
Apply critical thinking, scientific reasoning, advanced mathematics, simulation, computation, experimentation, and modern engineering tools to analyze and evaluate power, energy, and electromechanical systems.
