20260412890The mission of the program is to provide comprehensive and cutting-edge education that guarantees enough knowledge, skills and attitudes enabling the graduates to participate in medical services, techno-innovation, and different research avenues. This mission will be accomplished through a variety of compulsory as well as elective courses in the fields of clinical microbiology, parasitology, and immunology. A comprehensive hospital laboratory training to identify pathogens and diagnose infectious diseases by traditional, immunological as well as molecular methods will be provided. All the courses of the program (except Biostatistics & Research methodology courses) will be conducted in the department of Clinical Microbiology and Immunology (Faculty of Medicine main campus) and the clinical hands-on identification and processing of samples will take place within KAU hospital in the Clinical and Molecular Microbiology lab. Thesis research will be conducted in the research labs within the department of Clinical Microbiology and Immunology.

| Description | This course will be delivered in year 2 of the Master program. Students will undertake original research as partial fulfillment of the requirements for the master's degree in medical microbiology. The research project will address a specific scientific question related to current topics in the field of medical microbiology. Students are expected to conduct their research over 2-4 full- time terms, working in a laboratory or clinical research setting under the supervision of a faculty advisor. As part of the thesis process, students will perform a comprehensive literature review to establish the background and rationale for their project, which will form the basis of the thesis introduction. The final thesis will include a clear description of the research objectives, methodology, data analysis, and interpretation of results, followed by a scientifically valid and well-structured discussion of the findings and finally submitting the thesis. Students are also required to deliver an oral presentation of their research and defend their thesis. Successful completion and defense of the thesis are required for the awarding of the master's degree in medical microbiology. | ||

It will cover also the nature and origins of scientific writing, as well as components of a scientific protocol &proposal.
