About the Program

The Master’s Program in Geography provides advanced academic and research preparation in geographic sciences to meet the growing national demand for highly qualified specialists. The program develops competencies in geographic analysis, environmental and spatial studies, scientific research, and the application of modern geospatial technologies to support sustainable development and evidence-based decision-making. It contributes to preparing graduates capable of addressing national development priorities in alignment with the objectives of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

Learning Outcomes

Understands the concepts and foundations related to geographical phenomena, their distributions, and the relationships between them.
Knows the methods, tools, and approaches of geographic scientific research and how to use them in geographical research.
Knows the processes, procedures, materials, techniques, practices, assumptions, and/or terminology related to the field of geographical sciences.
Analyzes in depth the distributions of geographical phenomena, the factors controlling them, and their resulting outcomes.
Uses appropriate scientific techniques and approaches to carry out studies and research related to solving environmental and societal problems.
Designs traditional paper maps and drawings, and models for events, phenomena, and geographical and environmental problems.
Deduces solutions and options for geographical problems.
Evaluates works, research, and projects in the field of geographical sciences.
Formulates scientific research in his/her specialization.
Adopts teamwork in his/her field of specialization.

Graduates of the program are qualified to work in urban and regional planning, environmental and natural resource management, geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, spatial analysis, cartography, environmental consulting, sustainable development, infrastructure and transportation planning, geospatial data analysis, higher education, scientific research, and research and consulting centers. The program also prepares graduates for professional roles across public, private, and nonprofit sectors that rely on geographic sciences to support planning, development, and strategic decision-making.
