About the Program

The Master's Program in Islamic Creed (Aqidah) is a specialized graduate program delivered through a coursework-plus-thesis model totaling 40 credit hours at the main campus in Jeddah for both sections. It prepares specialized researchers in creed, comparative religions, sects, and contemporary thought who combine rigorous Sharia grounding with modern research methodologies and scholarly critical tools, addressing contemporary intellectual challenges through an evidence-based, moderate (wasati) approach.

Program Goals

1Prepare qualified scholars in creed, religions, and thought, grounded in solid Sharia and methodological foundations.
2Develop students' research and analytical capacities and train them in applying scholarly methods to doctrinal issues and their classical and modern sources.
3Build practical scholarly skills in editing classical creedal manuscripts (tahqiq) and serving the sources of Islamic knowledge.
4Promote academic integrity, research ethics, precision of reasoning, and respect for scholarly diversity.
5Contribute to society by preparing researchers able to articulate sound creed with a moderate spirit and provide credible scholarly consultation.
6Support scholarly production in creed and thought, advancing religious awareness and addressing contemporary issues.

Learning Outcomes

Analyzes the principal concepts and issues of creed, religions, and thought, together with their textual and rational evidence, within their Sharia contexts.
Distinguishes doctrinal issues, their purposes and detailed evidence, and the approaches of sects and religions in presenting and addressing them.
Explains the primary sources, contemporary references, and authorial methods in matters of creed and sects.
Reasons through doctrinal questions and weighs between positions according to scholarly research and analysis.
Evaluates creedal texts and opponents' methods using objective scholarly critical criteria.
Designs advanced research per academic methodologies and produces a scholarly thesis in creed and thought.
Applies research ethics and the etiquette of scholarly disagreement in practice and academic debate.
Demonstrates integrity and academic honesty in gathering, documenting, and analyzing information.
Contributes to disseminating sound doctrinal knowledge and serving society through an evidence-based, moderate approach.

Graduates are qualified for a broad range of academic, judicial, religious, and professional careers, including serving in fatwa (Islamic legal opinion) institutions, teaching at universities, public schools, and Islamic educational institutes, judicial and court administrative positions, hisbah (public ethics and regulatory oversight) institutions, Islamic da'wah (religious outreach) and guidance centers, intellectual counseling and rehabilitation programs, committees concerned with intellectual security, religious guidance services within military sectors, mosque leadership and Friday preaching (Imamate and Khitabah), Shariah research, studies, and consultancy centers, as well as governmental and private organizations engaged in religious guidance, outreach, and counseling.
