"This program, offered by the Health Information Technology Department at the College of Applied Sciences, King Abdulaziz University, is the first of its kind in the Kingdom. It aims to provide the Kingdom's healthcare sector with highly qualified medical sterilization technicians, trained in both theoretical and practical skills according to international standards in this field. Medical sterilization is a vital and central specialty in healthcare. The primary task of a sterilization technician is to disinfect, sterilize, package, and seal surgical and medical instruments, ensuring the safety of patients and healthcare practitioners by controlling and preventing the spread of infection within healthcare facilities."

| Description | This course provides sterilization diploma students with six months of supervised practical training in hospital Central Sterile Services Departments. Training follows a strict unidirectional workflow from the decontamination area to the clean inspection, assembly, and packaging area, and finally to sterilization and sterile storage. Students gain hands-on experience in receiving and sorting contaminated devices, using personal protective equipment, disassembling instruments, manual and mechanical cleaning, disinfection, inspection, functional testing, tray assembly, packaging, labeling, sterilizer loading, cycle monitoring, and quality-control testing. They also learn safe unloading, cooling, sterile storage, inventory rotation, traceability, and distribution of sterile supplies. Emphasis is placed on infection prevention, occupational safety, environmental controls, adherence to manufacturers’ instructions, and prevention of cross-contamination. By the end of the course, students will be able to perform essential CSSD procedures safely, accurately, and efficiently. | ||
