About the Program

This program is offered by the Health Information Technology Department at the College of Applied Sciences, King Abdulaziz University, in partnership with the American Association for Health Information Management (AHIMA). It aims to qualify graduates to work as medical coding and billing specialists, managing healthcare data such as diagnoses, medical procedures, test results, and more. In addition, the program includes specialized courses in health insurance and prepares graduates to obtain internationally recognized professional certifications in medical coding and health insurance, equipping them with the skills necessary to keep pace with the latest developments in the healthcare sector.

1This course aims to train medical coding and billing technicians to understand and analyze diagnoses, medical procedures, and test results recorded in medical records and other sources, and to identify potential medical interventions during inpatient and outpatient periods for coding according to the international standard adopted in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It also aims to train medical coding and billing technicians to manage healthcare data and provide patient data to relevant parties such as insurance companies, clinicians, and others. Furthermore, it focuses on developing the skills and methods for managing and archiving medical data.

Explain the fundamental concepts of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and disease and procedure classification systems relevant to medical coding.
Apply approved medical coding systems to accurately classify diagnoses and procedures in accordance with professional standards.
Review medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy in support of high-quality coding and billing practices.
Perform medical billing and insurance claims processes in compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and standards.
