It is dedicated to preparing qualified professionals in the design, fabrication, assessment, and fitting of prosthetic limbs for individuals with upper- and lower-limb amputations, as well as orthotic and supportive devices for a wide range of physical conditions and injuries. Establishment: The Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics was established by a royal decree in 1434-1435 AH to meet the Kingdoms needs in the prosthetics and orthotics specialization for both males and females. It is known that the department is part of the medical rehabilitation sciences and is considered a healthcare profession. The department applies selected knowledge and skills to design and apply orthotic devices and prostheses to care for individuals suffering from injury, disability, or disease that limits their physical performance or threatens their functional abilities due to effects on the skeletal, muscular, or nervous systems. The department emphasizes assessing the need for these devices and selecting and applying appropriate orthotic and prosthetic solutions to maintain or restore patients abilities. Department Requirements: The department requires 66 credit hours of compulsory courses and 12 credit hours of electives.
