20260412890The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Thermal Engineering and Desalination Technology) is one of the undergraduate programs offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at King Abdulaziz University. The program was developed to meet the Kingdom’s growing needs for qualified engineers in thermal engineering, energy systems, power generation, refrigeration and air conditioning, and water-desalination technologies. The program provides students with a strong foundation in mathematics, science, and core mechanical engineering, followed by specialized study in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermal engineering measurements, internal-combustion engines, heat exchangers, power plants, turbomachinery and gas turbines, refrigeration and air conditioning, pumps and hydraulic systems, and thermal and membrane desalination processes. Students develop practical and professional competence through laboratories, engineering design activities, computational modelling, simulation, a senior design project, and industrial training. The curriculum prepares graduates to analyze, design, operate, evaluate, and improve thermal-fluid and desalination systems while considering efficiency, safety, environmental responsibility, economic feasibility, and sustainability. Graduates are prepared for professional engineering practice in the water, energy, power generation, oil and gas, petrochemical, industrial, transportation, building services, and consulting sectors, as well as for research and postgraduate studies.
To be a nationally and internationally recognized program in mechanical engineering education and innovation in thermal systems, energy, and desalination technologies, contributing to sustainable water and energy solutions.
