KAU Sustainability
The Journey to Sustainability: When Government's & KAU's Efforts are Aligned
Since the inception of the SDGs, Saudi Arabia has actively participated in related consultations and pledged commitment to meet the goals. The Ministry of Education promotes the private sector and charitable societies' role in achieving the SDGs through developing methodologies to improve the productivity and efficiency of all sectors. The MoE also assigns tasks to government agencies to track and monitor the goals within their jurisdictions. The General Authority for Statistics builds indicators to measure progress by expanding statistical work.
Saudi Arabia has made impressive strides in promoting the seventeen sustainable development goals through various strategies. These include the National Environmental Strategy, National Biodiversity Conservation Strategy, Vegetation Restoration Strategy in Riyadh, National Natural Disasters Management Plan, National Marine Disaster Management Plan, and National Chemical and Bacteriological Incidents Management Plan. Academic institutions must play a critical role in overcoming societal challenges, and education, research, innovation, and leadership are key to achieving this. Universities can provide the necessary support to implement every SDG and the SDG framework successfully.
King Abdulaziz University (KAU) holds a crucial position in Saudi society, tasked with creating and disseminating knowledge to achieve sustainability through the SDGs. KAU has taken decisive action by aligning its strategy, internal policies, and governance with the Saudi government and NGOs. The university has identified areas for improvement and has updated its policies and strategies to empower SDGs. KAU continuously monitors this process to ensure continuous growth and development. As a testament to its commitment, KAU has established the "Strategic Center for Kingdom's Vision Realization" and set clear goals to achieve success:
Strategic Goals

Upgrade the performance of university employees to reach excellence in implementing the program's initiatives that achieve the Kingdom's vision.
