20260412890The Research Excellence Center for Intelligent Engineering Systems at King Abdulaziz University is a specialized research center dedicated to the development and application of intelligent engineering systems and advanced technologies through the integration of scientific research, technological development, prototyping, testing, and experimental validation. The Center focuses on translating research outcomes into practical solutions in priority areas, including autonomous driving, intelligent control systems, robotics and advanced electronics, and intelligent medical devices. The Center is committed to fostering a multidisciplinary research environment that brings together researchers, students, and partners from the industrial and government sectors. Particular emphasis is placed on developing and evaluating technologies in real-world environments, facilitating knowledge and technology transfer, building specialized competencies, and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry.
Autonomous Driving and Smart Mobility: Computer vision, sensor fusion, LiDAR, radar and camera systems, localization and mapping, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), vehicle control, and testing of autonomous driving technologies. Intelligent Control Systems: Advanced and adaptive control, AI-based control, modeling and simulation, system identification, dynamic systems, and experimental validation using Quanser platforms. Advanced Electronics and Robotics: Embedded systems, electronic prototyping, sensors and actuators, robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), and fabrication and testing of electronic systems. Smart Medical Devices: Biomedical measurements and signals, wearable devices, health monitoring systems, medical signal processing, medical sensors, and AI-powered healthcare systems.

The Center seeks to establish research and technological partnerships with universities, government entities, and industrial and technology companies to develop joint projects, leverage research infrastructure, test technologies, exchange expertise, train skilled professionals, and accelerate the translation of scientific research outcomes into practical applications. Targeted areas of collaboration include electric and autonomous vehicles, intelligent systems, electronics and robotics, medical devices, data and artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, and emerging technologies.
The Center organizes training programs, workshops, and specialized courses targeting students, researchers, engineers, and professionals in relevant engineering and technological fields. These training programs cover topics such as autonomous driving, intelligent vehicles, control systems, robotics, embedded systems, electronics, artificial intelligence, data collection and analysis, and medical technologies. The Center also hosts research events, expert-led sessions, summer training programs, student research activities, and hands-on courses utilizing the Center’s laboratories and research platforms.
