20260412890In light of the growing environmental challenges facing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia—similar to many countries around the world—which have direct implications for human health and quality of life, environmental issues have received considerable attention within national plans and strategies. They were incorporated into the Ninth Development Plan, the General Environmental Law was adopted, and both the National Strategy for Health and Environment and the National Science and Technology Plan provided strong support for environmental research. These environmental systems and regulations aim to protect, conserve, and develop the environment; reduce various forms of pollution; safeguard public health; preserve natural resources and promote their rational use; and integrate environmental considerations into comprehensive development planning across industrial, agricultural, and urban sectors. They also seek to enhance environmental awareness and promote the concept of individual and societal responsibility toward environmental protection. In line with the rapid transformations witnessed by the Kingdom within the framework of the comprehensive reform agenda pursued by our wise leadership under the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud—may God preserve him—the pivotal role of universities has emerged as a fundamental pillar in supporting environmental work and scientific research. This has necessitated the establishment of a specialized center dedicated to environmental studies, contributing to addressing current environmental challenges and providing innovative scientific solutions in accordance with international standards. In this context, the Center of Excellence in Environmental Studies at King Abdulaziz University was established on 23/2/1428H, with generous support and funding from the Ministry of Higher Education at that time under the Centers of Excellence initiative. The Center represents one of the key scientific and knowledge pillars in the field of environmental studies and serves as an advanced research platform that attracts researchers, scientists, and graduate students. It provides a stimulating research environment supported by state-of-the-art technologies, specialized laboratories, and qualified scientific staff, thereby enabling the efficient and flexible conduct of fundamental, applied, and developmental research in line with rapid technological advancement and contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals.

To attain a leading position and earn national and international trust through excellence in environmental studies and research in the fields of pollution and environmental protection.
