Center of Research Excellence in Climate Change

About the Center

Established in 1431 AH, the Center of Excellence for Climate Change Research is a research institution dedicated to studying climate change within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Through its research, the Center aims to develop a climate database specific to the Kingdom, which can be utilized for applied studies regarding the climate and its variations. Over the years, the Center has developed various weather and climate models for the Arabian Peninsula, enabling it to generate accurate outputs that enhance the understanding of climate change in the region. As a result of its sustained efforts and outstanding achievements, the outputs of these models have been incorporated into comparative analyses with global climate models, thereby improving the accuracy of climate projections. The Center aims to support policymakers at both local and regional levels—particularly regarding climate change and adaptation strategies—by providing scientific and practical solutions. These solutions assist the Kingdom in addressing climate change challenges through strategies designed to adapt to these changes and mitigate their adverse effects across various sectors.

The Center's Areas of Work

Climate modeling and climate change studies for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and database development.
Short- and long-term climate forecasting using various methods.
Assessment of the impacts of future climate change on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Partnerships and Agreements

The Center of Excellence for Climate Change Research works to establish strategic partnerships with universities, research centers, and both government and private organizations to develop innovative solutions for climate change-related challenges. Through these partnerships, the Center aims to conduct collaborative research in areas such as climate change mitigation, adaptation to environmental changes, and sustainable natural resource management. It also contributes to localizing new technologies and organizing workshops and training programs to foster scientific awareness and innovation in this field.
