King Abdulaziz University, through the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, launched
Environment Week under the “Your Impact Is Green” initiative, in partnership with the
Makkah Region branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and
with the participation of several ministry affiliated national centers. The launch was
attended by King Abdulaziz University President Dr. Tareef bin Youssef Alaama on
Sunday, May 3, 2026.

This launch comes as part of the university’s commitment to its leading role in
promoting environmental awareness. The program includes a series of diverse
events and activities extending over two weeks, combining awareness-raising and
interactive components, in addition to sports, social, and cultural programs targeting
various segments of the community both inside and outside the university.

The partnership between the university and the ministry’s branch emphasized the
importance of integrating institutional efforts to promote environmental awareness
and culture and advance sustainability practices, in line with the objectives of Saudi
Vision 2030. It also contributes to building a society that is more aware of and
responsible toward the environment.

Environment Week is expected to see strong participation in its accompanying
activities, which include an environmental exhibition and interactive initiatives, most
notably the “Environmental Passport,” in addition to field programs that help reinforce
positive environmental behaviors.

Organizing this event comes as an extension of the university’s efforts to support
environmental causes and strengthen its community engagement mission through
innovative approaches that contribute to achieving sustainable development.
