King Abdulaziz University, represented by the General Administration of Library Affairs, has launched the “Knowledge Transformation through Artificial Intelligence in Libraries and Information Institutions” forum as part of its efforts to harness AI technologies to develop knowledge systems and support digital transformation across the university.
Held at the King Faisal Convention Center, the forum opened on Monday, March 30, 2026, and continues through Tuesday. The event reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening the role of libraries and information institutions in supporting education, research, and innovation in the digital age.
Opening the forum on behalf of the university president, Prof. Amin Yousef Noaman, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, presided over a ceremony that also marked the launch of the full-text ScienceDirect database. The forum’s program features six panel discussions involving 20 speakers, in addition to seven remote activities, practical workshops, and training courses led by specialized experts. A dedicated exhibition is also being held alongside the event, showcasing the latest innovative technological solutions and enabling direct engagement with database providers. This offers participants valuable opportunities to explore modern knowledge systems and exchange expertise with specialists in the field.
Discussions throughout the forum focus on educational and research-related themes, particularly the use of artificial intelligence to develop the library sector and strengthen academic learning. Participants are also examining AI applications in university libraries, the promotion of governance, and the preservation of heritage in step with the digital era. These efforts are aimed at improving library and information science practices in ways that support future research goals.
Experts at the forum reviewed the challenges associated with AI literacy and highlighted leading practices in the field. Attention was also given to the role of AI technologies in libraries and academic centers in advancing Saudi Vision 2030, with the goal of enhancing the efficiency of information institutions and strengthening their technological contribution to the knowledge society.
During the event, the General Administration of Library Affairs announced the winners of the Elsevier Award for the university’s top three published scientific papers. Prof. Abdullah Baabdullah received the Research Impact Award, Dr. Abrar Al-Sufyani won the Best Emerging Researcher Award, and Prof. Zuhair Natto was honored with the Academic Excellence Award, in recognition of their contributions to research and academic excellence.
The forum is seen as an initiative to equip staff and specialists with a deeper understanding of artificial intelligence and its impact on the future of information work. It also reflects King Abdulaziz University’s ambition to lead in the knowledge sector and contribute to the development of a sustainable economy.
By bringing together experts, researchers, and technology providers, the event highlights the university’s ongoing efforts to turn its vision for innovation and knowledge leadership into a tangible reality.
