King Abdulaziz University Joins “Keep an Eye on the Sea” Volunteer Campaign to Protect the Marine Environment

King Abdulaziz University (KAU) participated in the sixth edition of the “Keep an Eye on the Sea” volunteer campaign, launched by Jeddah Governorate’s Volunteer and Community Partnership Program “Let’s Initiate” in collaboration with ALBAIK Food Systems Company and a number of relevant entities. Held in conjunction with Saudi National Day, the campaign took place at Al-Buday’ Beach in southern Jeddah.

Focused on promoting marine conservation, the campaign encouraged community participation in protecting beaches and marine life, reducing pollutants that threaten marine ecosystems, fostering responsible environmental practices, and strengthening volunteer engagement. These efforts contribute to improving the coastal environment, enhancing quality of life, and supporting the long-term sustainability of marine resources.

Volunteers and divers took part in a range of activities, including cleaning beaches and the seabed and removing waste. The campaign also featured educational programs and interactive activities that introduced participants to marine ecosystems and practical ways to protect them.

Children participated in a hands-on workshop highlighting the importance of coral reefs and their role in supporting biodiversity and ecological balance. A safe and engaging educational simulation was also used to introduce the concept of marine aquaculture.
