20260412890King Abdulaziz University has approved the academic structure of its School of Mines, marking a significant milestone in the establishment of the school. Building on the cooperation agreement signed between the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources and King Abdulaziz University, the approved structure advances the establishment of the School of Mines. The agreement aims to strengthen collaboration between academia and the Kingdom’s mining and minerals sector while developing academic programs and specializations aligned with the industry’s evolving needs.
As part of the approved structure, the former Faculty of Earth Sciences has been renamed the School of Mines, with its academic units reorganized into two departments: the Department of Earth Sciences and Geophysics and the Department of Mining Engineering. This restructuring builds on the university’s longstanding expertise in the Earth sciences while strengthening its integration with engineering disciplines that support the mining sector.
This academic restructuring represents a significant step toward completing the establishment of the School of Mines and reflects the strategic partnership between King Abdulaziz University and the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources. It will contribute to the development of a specialized education and research ecosystem while preparing highly qualified national professionals equipped to meet the evolving needs of the mining sector.
