King Abdulaziz University signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Additive Manufacturing & Innovation Company (NAMI), backed by the Saudi Arabian Industrial Investments Company (Dussur), global 3D printing company 3D Systems, and Saudi Electricity Company (SEC). The agreement aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise and knowledge and strengthen capabilities in scientific research, training, consultancy, reverse engineering and additive manufacturing.
It was signed on the sidelines of the Saudi Industry Forum.
Representing King Abdulaziz University at the signing was Prof. Alaa Attar, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Rabigh, while NAMI was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Mohammed bin Munther Swaidan.
Advancing joint research and development in reverse engineering and additive manufacturing is a key focus of the MoU. Areas of cooperation include producing research prototypes, engaging experts to review, discuss and evaluate research, and implementing advanced R&D programs focused on exploring and enhancing materials such as polymers, metals and composites, developing innovative engineering designs, and creating and testing prototypes.
Key areas of collaboration also include developing and implementing qualification and certification programs for applications and products manufactured using reverse engineering and additive manufacturing technologies, with the aim of ensuring compliance with relevant local and international standards. University students will also benefit from specialized training programs, supervision and support for outstanding graduation projects, as well as educational, training and consultancy services and other joint activities.
Further cooperation includes organizing joint events and competitions focused on developing innovative solutions and products related to additive manufacturing, collaborating on marketing and promotional activities, utilizing University laboratories for selected testing, and participating in research projects supported by external organizations and funding programs.
