King Abdulaziz University inaugurated a new seminar hall and laboratory for the Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz Chair for the Development of Crime Prevention Methods at the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology on Sunday, 25 October 2026. The facilities were inaugurated by Prof. Amin bin Yousuf Noaman, Vice President for Research and Innovation.
The inauguration coincided with a visit by a delegation from the Chair Programme’s General Secretariat, led by its Secretary-General, Brigadier General Abdullah bin Badi Al-Harbi.
During the visit, the delegation received an overview of the laboratory’s functions and the Chair’s completed research projects. These include crime prediction using AI-powered open-source intelligence, automated monitoring of unlawful digital content, and technological solutions to combat financial crime, fraud and money laundering.
Other projects focus on monitoring activity across digital systems, predicting suspect behaviour, detecting personal data breaches in hidden online content, and developing intelligent systems for crime monitoring, analysis and resource allocation. The Chair has also developed an AI-powered system that uses large language models to optimise patrol deployment and resource distribution, alongside a mobile application that employs computer vision and artificial intelligence to identify different types of drugs.
Established through a partnership between King Abdulaziz University, the Ministry of Interior and SABIC, the Prince Naif Chair Programme is a research and training initiative dedicated to developing national technological solutions for crime prevention. It brings together Saudi faculty members specialising in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and data science, alongside master’s and doctoral students, to advance crime prevention through modern technologies.
