The event was attended by Prof. Zaini bin Talal Al-Hazmi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
Aimed at highlighting the religious and historical significance of Saudi Arabia as the home of the Two Holy Mosques, the forum showcased the Kingdom’s efforts to protect and care for these sacred sites. It also sought to promote religious and intellectual awareness and foster a sense of national responsibility among university students and staff.
Four academic sessions addressed different aspects of the forum’s central themes. Opening the programme, Prof. Abdulwahab bin Ayed Al-Ahmadi, Professor of Shari’ah and Islamic Studies, presented “The Land of the Two Holy Mosques: Significance and Responsibility”, examining the significance of the Two Holy Mosques and the responsibility to protect and defend them.
Providing a historical perspective, Prof. Abdulrahman bin Saad Al-Orabi, Professor in the Department of History, delivered the second session, “Protecting the Two Holy Mosques: A Historical Perspective”. His presentation explored the Saudi state’s historical efforts to safeguard the Two Holy Mosques and strengthen national security.
Focusing on the role of religious knowledge during challenging circumstances, the third session, “Islamic Jurisprudence in Times of Crisis”, was presented by Prof. Abdu bin Kaddaf Ahmed, General Supervisor of the Intellectual Awareness Unit. It addressed the importance of Islamic legal awareness in responding to crises and emerging challenges, as well as its contribution to promoting public awareness.
University responsibilities were the focus of the fourth session, “The University’s Responsibility”, presented by Dr. Hassan bin Mohammed Al-Shehri, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities for Educational Affairs. The discussion examined the roles of university academics and students in safeguarding the nation and promoting intellectual awareness.
An “Open Dialogue” session, moderated by Dr. Ali bin Hamad Al-Nashri, Associate Professor in the Department of Shari’ah and Islamic Studies, provided participants with an opportunity to discuss the forum’s themes and exchange perspectives.
Proceedings concluded with the presentation of recommendations and the announcement of the forum’s outcomes, reflecting King Abdulaziz University’s efforts to promote intellectual awareness, strengthen national belonging and responsibility, and reinforce the role of academic institutions in serving society.
