Professor Radwan Al-Farawati is a Saudi marine chemist and oceanographer with extensive academic and administrative experience at King Abdulaziz University. Born and raised in Taif, Saudi Arabia in 1967, he received his undergraduate degree in Marine Chemistry from the Faculty of Marine Sciences in 1990. He then pursued postgraduate studies at Liverpool University, where he earned his Ph.D. in Oceanography in 1998. Over the course of his academic career, Professor Al-Farawati has served in multiple leadership positions within the Faculty of Marine Sciences, including Chair of the Marine Chemistry Department, Vice Dean for Branches Affairs, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies, and Dean of the Faculty. His scientific work centers on marine chemistry and Red Sea studies, especially the behavior and distribution of nutrients and trace metals in coastal waters, the speciation of dissolved trace metals, and the geochemistry of Red Sea brines. His research portfolio also extends to marine natural products from organisms such as corals, algae, and sponges, as well as the development of nanocomposite membranes for sustainable water treatment. Through this work, he has contributed to advancing both marine science and environmentally responsible technologies.
