Biography
Dr. Wafa AbuBaker Bawazir is an Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry. She obtained her PhD from the University of Nottingham (United Kingdom) and graduated with distinction (Master’s degree) from King Abdulaziz University. She currently serves as the Vice Dean of the College of Marine Sciences. From 2018 to 2026, she held the position of Head of the Chemistry Department (female section) at the College of Science, where she played a significant role in leading, developing, and accrediting academic programs, enhancing research activities, and framing the department’s strategic plan. She is a certified quality auditor “King Abdul Aziz Quality Award”, an external academic accreditation reviewer (NCAAA), Harvard Bok Higher Education teaching Certificate(Harvard) and a certified strategic planning consultant (KAU). Her research interests focus on medicinal chemistry and organic synthesis, with an emphasis on the design of novel compounds with anticancer and antimicrobial activity, the development of innovative synthetic methodologies, as well as research in drug delivery systems, green chemistry, and functional nanomaterials and their applications. She has received research funding and support from several national funding bodies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, contributing to her scientific research output.
