Dr. Mohammed H. Aljahdali is an Associate Professor of Marine Geology and Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Marine Sciences, King Abdulaziz University. He has over 15 years of academic and research experience in the fields of oceanography, marine environment, and marine geology. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Geology from King Abdulaziz University in 2007, followed by Master of Science (2013) and PhD (2016) degrees in Geology (specializing in Marine Geology) from Florida State University in the United States. Dr. Aljahdali combines research excellence with strategic academic leadership. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed research papers in prestigious international journals such as Nature Geoscience and Marine Pollution Bulletin, achieving an h-index of 12 and nearly 800 citations. He participated in two international scientific expeditions within the Integrated Ocean Drilling and Exploration Program (IODP) in the Caribbean Sea and the Philippine Sea, and led an expedition to the Red Sea continental shelf to study planktonic coccoliths and foraminifera. He was selected as the lead author for the Coastal and Marine Environment chapter in the State of the Environment Report for Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture. He also served as a part-time consultant to the World Bank and the General Organization for the Conservation of Coral Reefs and Red Sea Turtles on the project to assess the economic value of coral reefs in the Red Sea. Through these roles, he has contributed not only to advancing scientific research in marine geology but also to supporting environmental policymaking, resource conservation planning, and sustainable resource management in Saudi Arabia. His career reflects a rare combination of scientific depth, international field experience, and institutional leadership in higher education.
