Introduced in 2007 under the Department of Nuclear Engineering (established in 1977), the Nuclear Engineering (Radiation Protection) program was developed to broaden the curriculum by incorporating radiological engineering topics aligned with radiation safety and related applications in medicine and industry. The program provides a solid nuclear engineering foundation with a focused radiation protection emphasis, preparing graduates for professional practice and further study in related nuclear and radiological fields; the program currently enrolls 19 students, and recent department graduation statistics are 15 (2024/2025), 9 (2023/2024), 19 (2022/2023), 10 (2021/2022), and 8 (2020/2021). The program’s most recent Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET general review visit was in 2021. The Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering (Radiation Protection) program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET, https://www.abet.org , under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Nuclear, Radiological, and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.
