For 37 years, the institute was a research center dedicated to compiling scattered writings and experiences in the field of Islamic economics. Its aim was to deepen theoretical understanding and establish practical applications, making it the first research center of its kind established in 1397 AH (1977 CE). Its primary focus has been cultivating a second generation of researchers and pioneers capable of continuing the scientific journey without interruption, God willing. When it transitioned to an institute at the end of 1432 AH (2011 CE), it added two main pillars to its work: education and training. Furthermore, it expanded its community service efforts and strengthened and developed partnerships both locally and internationally, all with the goal of contributing to the development of a global economic system and ideology that achieves prosperity and social justice for humanity.

The Islamic Economics Institute operates on four main pillars: scientific research, higher education, training and development, and international cooperation. This has been the case since its transformation from a research center to a higher institute in 1433 AH (2012 CE). Scientific research continues to be a central focus for researchers, as planned. This is facilitated by the fact that the institute's educational programs are limited to postgraduate studies. The institute offers Master's programs in Islamic Finance for Executives, Islamic Economic Analysis and its Applications, and Executive Master's in Waqf Management and Economics. This year, the institute has also introduced training programs to prepare national talent for the job market.
