Department of Public Health Dentistry
The Department of Public Health Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry specializes in studying and promoting oral health at the community level. Its primary goal is to prevent oral diseases and improve health awareness among different community groups. The Department of Public Health Dentistry was initially part of the Preventive Dentistry Department when the College of Dentistry was established, and it became an independent department in the 2013/2014 academic year. The department focuses on developing students' skills and experiences in community-based dentistry, rather than individual patient treatment. It also evaluates care systems that affect oral health, designs monitoring systems to assess oral health status and its determinants, and integrates social determinants of health into dental practice. The department offers specialized academic programs and contributes to scientific research to develop new methods and approaches in public health dentistry. It also works on communication and leads collaboration regarding public health and oral health needs. The Department of Public Health Dentistry aims to equip dentists with the knowledge and skills to promote health awareness and provide effective solutions for the prevention of oral diseases on a broad scale, contributing to improved oral health and disease prevention at the community level.
