Prerequisite:  FAOYC

           

 

Course Objectives: To provides with the basic and fundamental knowledge of insurance. Also deals with various   principles of insurance based on which it function.

 

Course Competency:

Students will be able to:

  • Define and discuss the origin of insurance and its development up to the present time. (I)
  • Describe the basic elements of the insurance industry. (I)
  • Understand the nature of insurance and its mode of operation. (I)
  • Explain why the business of insurance protects society. (I)
  • Demonstrate an understanding of insurance terms and concepts. (I,II)
  • Identify the benefits of insurance and insurance market in Saudi Arabia. (II)
  • Describe the major types of insurance provides available in Saudi Arabia market (II)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic insurance principle. (III)
  • State the nature and function of the documentation used in insurance. (IV)
  • Explain the characteristics of the insurance contract. (V)
  • Define and identify the characteristics of various types of insurance polices. (VI)
  • List the parts of an insurance policy. (VII)

Textbooks / Required Materials: 

 

Text Book: Introduction to Insurance-Book Code # 510

 

N.B: Student can purchase the book from  Jareer or Alshagry book stores.

 

Attendance:

 

1.      You are required to attend all classes.

2.      You are expected to be in class within the first FIVE minutes of class.

3.      Those who come in the class within 5-15 minutes are considered LATE

4.      Two late appearances in the class are considered as one absent and will be recorded in the instructors Grade Book

5.      After fifteen (15) minutes the students are marked absent

6.      After nine (9) absents, a grade of “DN” (Denied) will be issued

 

It's your responsibility to keep the record of your absences.

 

SPECIAL Accommodations:

 

If there is any student in this class who has special needs because of learning disabilities or other disabilities, please discuss these needs with me.

 

Evaluation / Grading:

 

Students must earn 60% at least of the total possible points. The official grades in this course are:

Students earn 59% and below are failed, F (Failed Grade).

Denied students will earn DN (denied grade).

Assignment:

     

You will be given assignments on important aspects of marketing. You may work in groups and returns the assignments to me. As group assignment, all members in group will share contribution and learning. To evidence this they will make presentations or answer questions asked by me. If someone shows no participation in or learning from the assignment his marks will be reduced. Therefore, it is advised that all group members take active part in the assignment and share learning.

 

No late submission will be allowed. Any delay in submission of assignment will be penalized by deduction of 1 mark for every day from the marked obtained by the group.

 

Course Procedures:

 

·         You have to secure text books, note books, stationary items and attend class in time.

·         You will be provided handouts/ class notes and additional material, where necessary.

·         You are encouraged to collaborate in discussion, problem solving outside the class.

·         If a student must miss a class he is expected to contact the instructor regarding make-up work before the next class meets.

·         Keep all graded papers to verify grades.

·         It is the student's responsibility to officially drop a class.  Failure to officially withdraw from a course may result in a F (Failed grade) or AF (Absent Failed grade).

·         Cell phones, pagers and electronic entertainment devices must be turned off during all class and Lab times.  Students violating this policy may be asked to leave class.
