Abstract
:
Background: Complications during pregnancy may necessitate hospitalization in an antenatal unit, which negatively impact the mental health of the pregnant woman. Aim of the Study: to assess psychological health among hospitalized high- risk pregnant women. Research Design: A descriptive correlation cross-sectional design was selected for this study to address the research aim. The self-administrated questionnaire contains two tools EPDS and GAD-7 to assess perinatal depression and anxiety levels among hospitalized high risk pregnant women. Sampling Technique: 271 hospitalized high risk pregnant women were recruited with a connivance sampling from the antenatal ward in King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh City to participate in this study. Results: (97%) are aged above 30 years old, (65.7%) working mother (92.6%) study sample have bachelor’s degree and above. The reproductive history of 271 participated high-risk pregnancies (52.4%) in their 2nd trimester of pregnancy (87.8%) had their pregnancies planned. Nearly (48.0%) of the mothers have 4-6 living children. Moreover, (70.1% (of high-risk pregnancies have no previous abortion. Approximately (above 70%) have not ever been diagnosed as with a high-risk pregnancy. Approximately (47.6%) experienced vaginal and cesarean section. The total level of depression and anxiety scale 67% consider to have probable depression while, almost 43% have mild anxiety. (M=15.2030, SD=± 4.16) and (M= 7.75, SD=± 3.86) respectively. There was a significant relationship between parameters of the mother's education, mother's job, and husband’s job with prenatal depression (p ˂ 0.05). On the other hand, for housewife/unemployment, primiparity has a positive association with anxiety. Conclusion: the level of anxiety and depression consider being highly significant among hospitalized high risk pregnant women. The health care professional should Support and motivate pregnant mothers, especially high-risk mothers.
