Abstract : Many patients are fearful of dental procedures, even if they were ~erformed under !ocal analgesia. This usually is due to apprehension, anxiety lOr previQlUs unpleasant experience1. As general anresthesia is not always welcomed, and in order to help apprehensive paCents accept oral surg:cal proc:;d~ ures, many intravenous sedatives and/or narcotic analgesics have been used pre-.:)peratively. The most co'mmon o:rnpFcatjons of these premedicaments, which limit their use before k cal anaJgesics, are: their h~gh addiction pohntial, carniovascub.r, respiratory 'and psychomimetic side effects ; and the presence of a long [eriod O!f pcst-'operative sedation accmpan~ed with nausea and vomiting1/,3.
