Abstract : High resolution 1H NMR spectra of some catecholamine neurotransmitters namely, dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine are reported and compared to that of the parant compound, catechol. The present analysis indicates the the resemblance in the magnetic environments of the three catecholamines studied. Intramolecular H-bonding is established between the aromatic hydroxyl groups. This H-bonding is enhanced by the introduction of the –OH group and/or the methyl groups in the ethylamino side chain. The deuterium exchange technique adopted in the present analysis enabled the safe and clear assignments of the NH2 and the –OH proton signals
