This goal is achieved through the development of physical health promotion programs tackling: diabetes and its prevention, hypertension and its prevention, obesity and its prevention, drug addiction and its prevention, early diagnosis of chronic illnesses, unhealthy food habits and their avoidance, and physical activity promotion.

This goal is achieved through the development of mental health promotion programs tackling: Stress and ways of dealing with it, Anxiety and ways of dealing with it, and Depression and its prevention.

This goal is achieved through the development of social health promotion programs tackling: premarital consultations, safe driving, domestic abuse, and scholarship preparation.
The Preventative Programs and Initiatives Unit
This unit takes various measures to prevent chronic and contagious illnesses. This is achieved through the development of preventative programs tackling: the early diagnosis of diabetes, hypertension, breast cancer, and colon cancer. In addition to, seasonal vaccination campaigns, Portable prevention clinics, Workplace safety awareness, and the prevention of excessive use of electronic devices.
The Health Volunteering Unit
This unit initiates various health volunteering opportunities by: launching a medical volunteering team containing both faculty and students, launching a non-medical volunteering team, delivering educational campaigns regarding health through its teams, and actively participating in international health days through its teams.
This unit focuses on society learning and mastering first aid skills which is done by: Holding first aid training courses, Holding Basic Life Support training courses, and Launching health activity initiatives.
The Health Activity Initiatives Unit
This unit aims for the betterment and correction of Saudi's wrong health habits and attitudes by: Holding sports activities and competitions, launching marathons and walking initiatives, and Launching educational and awareness spreading competitions promoting healthy activity.
The Research and Studies Unit
This unit utilizes the various programs within the center to collect data and perform beneficial scientific research that tackle current issues. The main goals of the research include: Health promotion research and studies, Quality of life, University health, and representing the university by publishing the research in renowned platforms.

Covid Control:
This initiative was developed to aid in the constant and active supervision of the current health status using data
provided and the integration of artificial intelligence. This program’s main function serves to identify suspected covid cases and those in contact with covid patients and handle medical reports initiated outside of KAU.
Covid-19 Guides:
Various guides were launched and published to help battle the pandemic which contributed greatly to overcoming the pandemic and making the university environment safer.
KAU Vaccination Center:
Following the initiation of this center, 4 different
committees and 5 web platforms were launched by the ministry to support KAU’s vaccination efforts. In addition, this center was supported by KAU through publishing 50 educational videos, 240 tweets raising awareness, 125
educational posters, 9 awareness lectures, 12 campaigns, and 12 television interviews. This, in turn, contributed greatly to overcoming the covid-19 pandemic with a record of more than 556 beneficials that were vaccinated successfully, and consequently placed the center first in terms of patient
satisfaction compared to other vaccination centers.
WEQAYA Indicator:
This indicator was developed to ensure the application of all precautionary measures at KAU during the pandemic and to monitor the strategies implemented for the safe restoration of the learning environment while maintaining social distancing protocols. This indicator provides continuously updating statistics regarding the application of the precautionary protocols within all KAU’s sectors. This indicator also enables the administration to supervise mentioned protocols throughout the university.
Center Accomplishments:
The Health Promotion Center was awarded the University’s President Award: The Community Service Excellence Award 2021, in the health promotion category. In addition, his excellency, the Minister of Education expressed his gratitude for the center’s efforts during the pandemic and instructed the sharing of the center’s expertise and successful experiences and passing them on to other Saudi universities.
Doctors for life is a structured non-profit volunteering group of health colleges students in King Abdulaziz University. It is organized and mentored by the Health Promotion Centre. Below are a few examples of Doctors for life contributions in 2021.

It is a unit that is established in the College of Medicine and King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Jeddah in order to serve the community healthily through education, training, provision of treatment opportunities, volunteering in health fields, and partnerships with employers and associations specialized in health care.

Students' Access to Sexual & Reproductive Health-Care Services and Information
KAU is committed to avail access for its students, to sexual and reproductive health care services, education and information, as part of KAU's responsibility towards its students and local community, where it has multiple medical centers that provide free medical services, education and information.

University Medical Services Center
The center works on providing top quality comprehensive health services, both informative and educational, to university employees, thus, providing a suitable environment for training and educational programs of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties and college students, and contributing to practical research programs and providing health awareness programs, including awareness and services related to sex and reproduction, for various sectors of the university. The Awareness Campaign for the Early Detection of Breast Cancer
The Acting Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Abdul-Moneim bin Abdul Salam Al-Hayani, launched an awareness campaign for the early detection of breast cancer, on Monday 18/10/2021, organized by the University Medical Services Center.
The campaign coincides with the activities of the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month (Pink Month), which is held in October of each year.
KAU's University Hospital
The goal, of KAU's Hospital, is to provide distinguished medical, educational, informative and research services that contribute to the advancement of health care in the society, as well as being in the top 100 hospitals worldwide.
- Health Education services: like workshops, educational sessions and services about various health topics, including sexual and reproductive health care, such as: Abortion, Caesarian section, External Cephalic version.
- Training Services: Various King Abdulaziz University (KAU) Colleges (like Medicine, Allied Sciences, Medical Technology, Nursing, among a few) are affiliated with the KAU Hospital for training of their students prior to their graduation.

The Department offers a wide scope of sexual and reproductive health care services that address every healthcare phase of a woman’s experience throughout her lifetime – from reproductive care through the childbearing and post-menopausal years.
The full range of comprehensive, high-level maternity services provided are:

- The Values of the Department reflect the type of health-care, informative and educational services it offers:
- To be recognized as a premier leader on obstetrics, gynecology and women’s health at the local, national, and international levels.
- To maintain excellence in education for medical students, residents fellows, graduate students, postgraduate students, and allied health professionals.
- To conduct the highest quality basic, transitional and clinical research in obstetrics and gynecology.
Regarding patients, all Saudi patients and eligible non-Saudi patients can be referred to the clinics. There is one Consultant who is specialized in women sexual health.
Confidentiality of information is a topmost concern at KAUH. The Hospital has clear and strict policy to follow and observe for access to information especially about patients.
Further Sexual & Reproductive Informative & Educational Services:
- Every student trainee is mandated to undergo Orientation Program before the start of hospital training. Trainees are given free access to the hospital’s information and education services based on their eligibility.
- For research purposes, trainees and/or non-training students may be granted access to information provided their research has passed and obtained approval of the Bioethics Research Committee in the Faculty of Medicine, and thereafter, by the KAU Hospital Ethics Committee.
Obstetrics and Gynecology Center
At the center, there are several training models for Obstetrics and Gynecology that enable the trainee to train on sexual and reproductive topics:
- Examination of the female pelvis, the stages of vaginal cervical dilatation, and the procedure for vaginal biopsy (surgical incision) of normal delivery, as well as examination of the orthopedic pelvis of the pregnant woman, its suitability with the fetus’s head, and the IUD fitted to prevent pregnancy.
- Visual simulator for diagnostic hysteroscopy and training for eradication of sperm and uterine damage.
- Laparoscopic simulators for laparoscopic surgery to train in manual visual alignment exercise skills.
- Ultrasound diagnostic devices for fetal development and how to sample a fetus.
- Simulation of high resolution medical dolls for normal childbirth, how to deal with the birth of a fetus in difficult cases, and training on managing medical crises.
The center also trains specialized health teams on the use of these devices with the possibility of film photography for all stages of clinical training and the use of accurate recordings to analyze, review and evaluate the performance (feedback) of the attendees.
Catering at KAU:
KAU has several cafeterias and canteen spread throughout the campus that provide different food options to students and staff. Vendors of these cafeterias and quality of food are evaluated based on students’ feedback using KAU facility surveys that are distributed annually. In addition, there is a centralized restaurant serving main meals and cafes for serving drinks and snacks. The centralized restaurants in both main campus and Rabigh campus offer meals for a nominal fee for students and faculty members. The food is provided using approved health measures, as the number of meals provided annually reached approximately 430,000.
The Nutrition Department prepares a variety of healthy meals in the central kitchen of the university and presents them using sanitary means. The number of meals served daily include:

Mental & physiological health at KAU:
KAU is committed to providing monitoring, assistance, and counselling services to all employees and students from their first day in the university and up to their graduation and is extended to KAU alumni and in particular those who are in need or facing difficulties throughout their academic progress.

Students who are identified with academic difficulties are supported with many guidance and support facilities provided by the University and monitored until the student overcomes the issue. Any student with academic difficulties due to social or psychological issues are referred to the University Guidance Center at the Deanship of Student Affairs for consultation and advising.

The center offers several services to both students and staff, that helps strengthening physiological health and adapting to university life, developing positive attitudes towards themselves and their society, individual and group guidance in the psychological, social, academic and professional fields, and difficulties overtaken and problems solving. The University Guidance Center consists of six units including; Academic and Career Counselling Unit, Psychological Counselling Unit, Social Care and Social Counselling Unit, and Counselling Unit at the University Residence (Accommodation) in addition to the Assessment and Training unit and Opinion Survey unit.
The main objectives of Psychological Counselling Unit are:
- Help individuals understand themselves and their situations, develop positive thinking and attitude to deal with difficulties.
- Train psychologists to identify individuals' issues and difficulties and to apply the appropriate counselling techniques according to each case.
- Activating psychological counselling and psychotherapy services remotely.
The main objectives of Counselling Unit at the University Residence are:
- Helping students to psychologically and socially adapt to the new university residence by providing an appropriate environment and psychosocial counselling service.
- Analyzing their needs and suggestions to improve University residence services.
- Enhancing communication and engagement among each other.
- Helping them to improve their abilities and their skills.
All the services at the University Guidance Center are provided by qualified, specialized, and expert staff to offer psychological counselling and personal counselling services.
These services are provided through individual and group psychological counselling sessions, social care, electronic counselling services, counselling phone, social participation programs, study faltering programs, lectures, seminars, workshops, events, forums and guided trips, and field tours. These services are implemented according to a specific, clear, and declared working protocol as follows:
- The student/staff is directed to the center, and he or she is received by the receptionist, introducing him/her to the services of the center, and then electronically registering the request and choosing the specialist responsible for providing the service and setting a suitable appointment with them. Then the specialist determines the indicative plan s/he needs after his/her interview and opens a confidential file and determines appointments for each. If the student/staff needs another specialist, s/he will be directed to that specialist and if s/he needs to address some other authorities in the university, s/he is asked to submit a request for that and s/he takes this consent to send this confidential information to the concerned party.
- Through the consultative phone call, in order to respond to the quick consultations that the student/staff needs after documenting their identity and taking the identification data accordingly, and if the matter requires the student to attend the center, the student is recommended to attend and set an appropriate date for them with the appropriate specialist.
- By receiving the cases referred from the official authorities in university according to the approved transfer form or an official letter addressed to the Dean of Student Affairs or the General Supervisor of the University Counselling Center. The Center utilizes appropriate protection mechanisms to maintain the confidentiality of personal issues.

There are mechanisms to ensure effective follow-up to the services and evaluate the quality of services offered to students to be used to improve the quality of the services by the centers. All advising and counselling services are evaluated by students/staff to use their feedback for improvement.

The University Counselling Center develops annual plans for their activities for the whole academic year including the events, webinars, workshops and visits.

In addition, KAU hospital has a psychiatry department that provides medical services to KAU students, staff and the community. The psychiatrists at KAU specialize in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental, emotional, and addictive disorders, such as schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance-related disorders, sexual and gender identity disorders, and adjustment disorders. The psychiatrists analyze the biological, psychological, and social components of the disease, and is therefore fully prepared to treat patients. In addition, the psychiatrists are qualified to diagnose, perform examinations, order the necessary analyzes, prescribe medications, evaluate and treat psychological problems and personal problems, and collaborate with the families to deliver best quality of care.
