Sustainable Development Unit
In line with its commitment to Sustainable Development Goals SDG’s, King Abdulaziz University established a Sustainable Development Unit under the umbrella of the Deanship of Student Affairs in 1440 AH, as KAU is interested in promoting the concept and culture of sustainable development and raising students’ awareness and understanding through sustainable initiatives and activities that are linked to Kingdom’s Vision 2030. These initiatives would enhance students’ perceptions and expand their horizons in social and environmental responsibilities. This Unit launched a student skill license program named “
Leadership in Sustainable Environmental Development License
”. Sixty male and female students were accepted in the program following specific criteria and high standard mechanisms that included establishing effective collaborations and cooperation with a group of experts. This was essential for students to encourage and qualify them to design programs and initiatives that promote sustainable environmental development within the university campus.
Made by My Hand Center
Made by My Hand Center at KAU supports and develop students’ talent and utilizes their valuable time to translate their creative ideas and handmade skills into real-life opportunities in the form of small investment project presented to the community through an annual exhibition to display and market these projects, thus contributing to the development of society and combating unemployment and promoting local economic production and integrating women in the development process. It provides forums, lectures, courses, and workshops through which students are made aware of the importance of small projects, enrich their culture and skills, and provides knowledge about everything that increases productivity and encourages handicrafts. The Center helps students to reach the labour market and to participate in local and international exhibitions to participate in displaying their products to enhance competitiveness.
In its 16th edition during 2022, the exhibition used Sustainable Development Theme, in line with the Kingdom’s vision to prepare responsible individuals capable of developing their society and environment. All programs, activities and products focused on disseminating knowledge and developing skills that promote sustainable development goals, financial sustainability, and diversification of sources of income. This edition involved students who participated from all Saudi Universities. KAU believes in its role in preparing a generation who aspires to achieve the Kingdom’s vision of becoming a leading nation with prosperous economy who enhance the society by developing their community.

Student Scientific Forum
In addition, sustainable development was considered one of the main goals of the annual Student Scientific Forum for both male and female students. This forum encourages innovation and creativity in designing and stimulating environments for scientific research, knowledge works, sustainable development, and exploring and attracting talents in order to contribute to achieving the vision Kingdom 2030.
