KAU First Surgery Conference's Recommendations

The Department of Surgery- Faculty of Medicine, King Abdulaziz University- closed sessions of its First International Surgery Conference organized from 4-5 November 2008, corresponding to 6-7 Zul Qaeda 1429 at King Fahd Center for Medical Research.
 
The Conference's banner was "the minimally Incisive Surgery".

Prof Hassan Bin Ali Al Zahrani, KAU Head Department of Surgery, Head of the Conference's Organizing Committee and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Society for Vascular Surgery (SSVS), maintained that the Conference had addressed a number of issues relating to the laparoscopic surgery and had subsequently put forward the following recommendations:

• Equipping Saudi surgery departments with hi-tech medical devices, such as surgical robots, vascular bypasses and advanced surgical endoscopes.

• Developing local surgery fellowship programmes to prepare trainees to join more specialized fellowships abroad and providing training centres with highly qualified cadres.

• Establishing cooperation ties with international universities and medical centres with a view to share experiences, exchange trainees and hold advanced workshops, symposiums and conferences.

• Introducing regulations to reduce medical errors in general and incisive surgery errors in particular, and barring intruders and unqualified surgeons from practising in the interests of patients.

• Holding an annual local surgery conference resembling that of the American College of Surgeons to allow Saudi surgeons to share their experiences.

This was announced by Dr Haitham Bin Ahmed Zaka'ee, Supervisor General of Public Relations and Media.
