Profile
Dr. Djamel Dilmi received his Doctorate of Philosophy in built environment in 2009 from Faculty of Architecture and Environmental Design, International Islamic University, Malaysia. His B.Sc. in Town planning in 1999 and followed by a M.Sc. in built environment in 2006 from IIUM. Since 2001 he has been involved in teaching in several universities including IIUM and Twintech University College. He has taught a wide range of studio and theory courses, including all levels of Design Studios, Building Construction, Conservation Science in Architecture, Building Restoration, Design thesis and Islamic geometric pattern. He is an active member of the academic and social communities. He served as consultant and researcher to the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia and contributed to several exhibitions, and he has contributed to site visits and architectural trips for students, and served as a document officer to the 10th summit of OIC and as chief facilitator, student development and co-curricular activity division, International Islamic University Malaysia. His education and working experience in academic and cultural institutions gave him a broad perspective dealing with students and colleagues from different nations, cultures and backgrounds. His research interests are varied and include: sustainable development, heritage preservation, urban conservation, and urban design, sustainable buildings, and architectural education. Both his teaching and his research focus on using technology to enhance but not displace traditional methods and techniques. As an academician he participated in national and international conferences and workshops which helped him to gain academic professional experience. This helps giving his students firsthand experience on the conscientious integration of theory and practice.
