Rana Hisham Mosli

Profile

Dr. Rana Hisham Mosli graduated with honors of the first degree from the Clinical Nutrition Department at King Abdulaziz University in the year 2009, where she was subsequently employed as a demonstrator and was granted a fellowship to complete her graduate studies. Dr. Mosli completed both her master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Michigan School of Public Health in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. Under the mentorship of two of the most distinguished child obesity researchers in the United States; Professor Karen Peterson and Professor Julie Lumeng, Dr. Mosli dedicated her work to better understand familial interactions during mealtimes and interrelationships with eating behaviors and weight status. Dr. Mosli returned to the Clinical Nutrition Department at KAU in 2015 where she began her role as an assistant professor and a coordinator of several courses. Since her return, Dr. Mosli planned and implemented several community awareness initiatives involving both adults and children, and successfully managed a KAU-funded research project. In 2016, Dr. Mosli was appointed head of the department's Scientific Research Unit. In September 2020, Dr. Mosli was promoted to Associate Professor, and in November 2020 she was assigned as head of the Clinical Nutrition Department. Dr. Mosli is a member of the Obesity Society, the Endocrine Society, and the American Society for Nutrition.

Research Interests

Dr. Mosli's research interests include the study of obesity, and factors contributing to increased adiposity, especially among young children. Her previous work has included the study of the home environment and family structure as determinants of child eating behaviors and weight status. In addition, she is interested in family mealtime interactions and obesity prevention and intervention programs, as well as the evaluation of innovative strategies for weight loss and healthy weight maintenance. Furthermore, Dr. Mosli's research interests include obesity-related complications and chronic conditions, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, in addition to early-life risk factors including maternal factors and gestational diabetes.

Scientific interests

Dr. Rana Mosli is interested in teaching topics related to nutritional sciences, clinical nutrition, and research methods in health sciences. Dr. Mosli aims to stay updated with regards to the latest evidence on course development, effective teaching strategies, and assessment methods. In 2019, Dr. Mosli has received the Diploma of Professional Development in Teaching and Learning from the Center for Teaching and Learning Development at King Abdulaziz University.
