Abstract : Obesity is a major concern among males and females worldwide and particularly in the Middle East. Due to changing life styles & economic prosperity most of the obese population is composed of young teenagers or elderly. Obesity is a condition in which the natural energy reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans, is increased to a point where it is thought to be a risk factor for certain health conditions or increased mortality. Obesity is not a simple problem of eating too much, where increased calories in diet and reduced physical activity add to the problem. However, the underlying causes of obesity are not fully understood, obesity seems to be a complex, multifactorial, chronic disease. Contributing factors include genetics, physiology, environmental and psychosocial factors. The obesity is not just a cosmetic problem. It's a health hazard. A person who is 40% overweight is twice more likely to die prematurely than an average-weight person. This is because obesity has been linked to several serious medical conditions including: insulin resistance, heart disease and stroke, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, sleep apnea and more other disease. However, selecting the appropriate treatment strategy depends on the goals of the patient as well as his or her health risk. In this study, we compared between tow weight reducing therapies in young Saudi female how are overweight and obese, low caloric diet and low glycemic diet The results indicated that body weight was significantly decreased in both groups but by the low glycemic diet is significantly decreased; HDL-C was significantly decreased in LGI group only, while LDL-C was significantly decreased in LC group. It's concluded that the LGI diet can result in significant weight reduction, but Risk of CHD Should be considered until other studies show a clear conclusion regarding the effect of LGI diet on HDL-C. Although the compliance to LC diet is lower than to LGI, it is considered a much safe weight reducing method until today.
